The Saber Boys Basketball team has taken part in the Iowa High School Hall of Pride Scrimmage the last 5 years. The scrimmages have been played against Davenport West High School. The scrimmage has the feel of a real game, but it is a scrimmage.
In order to take part in the scrimmage, the team is required to do a community service project. We have centered our efforts towards helping the DeWitt Referral Center. The DeWitt Referral center helps many people in our community. The Referral Center is a donation center where residents in need can go to receive assistance with paying for rent, utilities, or prescription medications. The center also operates a food pantry and a store where clothes, shoes, toys, books, and a variety of household items are sold. In order to provide these services, they rely on contributions. Each year, the team has gone out in the town and collected donations for the center. The community support has been amazing and the contributions that are given are greatly appreciated. During the 2013-2014 season and the 2014-2015 season, our service project was selected as one of the top 5 service projects in the state and our school was awarded $500. We look forward to continuing the scrimmage with Davenport West and our community service project. |
